How to transfer a website to UFO.Hosting

In today’s digital world, the need to change hosting providers is a common occurrence. Better prices, better service, more modern equipment — there can be many reasons

In order for the move to go smoothly and without losses, it is important to understand the details in advance and understand how everything works.

1. What to do before transferring

The most important thing before migrating is to create a backup copy. It will make it much easier to restore data and you won’t have to create a website from scratch.

What to save:

• site files,
• database.

You can do this in your hosting control panel or using a plugin if you have, for example, WordPress.

Also, collect in advance the necessary access and data that may be useful after the move:

• current position of the site in search,
• SEO settings and metadata,
• redirect plan (if URLs change),
• access to domain and mail.

2. How to transfer a website to UFO.Hosting

The process includes 9 stages: from preparation to final verification of the site on the new server. Let’s look at how everything works:

2.1 Remove the domain from the old hosting

Through the provider panel, disable the domain and delete the associated DNS records.

2.2 Add a domain to UFO.Hosting

In the UFO.Hosting panel, create a domain and configure DNS records to point to your new server.

2.3 Transfer site files

Copy all files to the UFO.Hosting server. This can be done with:

• FTP/SFTP client. For example, FileZilla; 
• file manager in the control panel.

2.4 Migrate the database

Dump the database on the old hosting (via phpMyAdmin or the console), then import it to the new server. Don’t forget to update your connection settings in the CMS.

2.5 Check internal links

If you change the domain along with your hosting, check all the links in the content. They can be replaced manually or using plugins (for example, Better Search Replace for WordPress).

2.6 Set up 301 redirects

To avoid losing traffic and harming SEO, set up redirects from old URLs to new ones. This is done in .htaccess or in the server configuration.
