How to connect to a server via RDP in Windows

RDP is a remote desktop protocol that allows you to connect to a server and work with it as if you were sitting directly at it. 

On rented VPS/VDS with Windows installed, an RDP connection is usually available. To log into the server, you will need its IP address and administrator credentials.

Next, we will tell you in detail where to find access and how to connect to the server using a Windows computer.

1) Access to the server: where to find the IP and password

All the necessary information is in your personal account. Open the section:

“Products/Services” → “Virtual Servers” → “Instructions” button

After this, a page with connection parameters will open. This tab will contain the server IP address, administrator username and password.

2) Connect to RDP on Windows

Windows already has a built-in remote desktop client, so most often there is no need to install anything additional.

Step 1: Open the RDP client

1. Press Win + R.
2. Enter the mstsc.exe command and click OK.

Step 2. Specify the server addressIn the “Remote Desktop Connection” window that opens, enter the IP address of your virtual server and click “Connect”.

Step 3: Enter your detailsNext, the system will ask you to provide login information. Enter the username and password from the instructions in your personal account and click OK.

Step 4: Confirm the certificate warningWhen you first connect, Windows may show a notification about an untrusted certificate. Typically this means that the server encrypts the connection using a self-signed SSL certificate. This often happens on new or basic RDP servers.

To prevent the window from appearing every time, check the box “Don’t prompt me for connections to this computer again” and click “Yes”.

After this, a new window will open, you will see the desktop of the remote server and can begin work tasks.
